What they are
Short neoprene/rubber sleeves/caps that slip over the EQ inductors on classic Neve modules (e.g., 1066/1073). They’re not magnetic shields—just non-conductive covers. Modern AMS Neve units use very similar rubber “pipe-end” style caps.
Why they’re used
Mechanical damping / microphonic control: helps stop the inductor bobbin from “ringing” or transmitting vibration into the EQ (handy in loud control rooms or mobile rigs).
Electrical insulation & physical protection: prevents accidental contact/shorts against nearby cards, wiring or metalwork.
Do they affect the sound?
Not in any intentional way. The caps are non-magnetic and shouldn’t change inductance/Q; they just damp vibrations and insulate. Avoid metal cans here—magnetic bodies near an inductor can actually create unwanted acoustic/mechanical effects.
